Top 12 Winter Activities to do in Nisswa
Minnesota is fun all year in Nisswa, recently named Best Minnesota Small Town by WCCO. If you are looking for fun this winter book your trip at Grand View Lodge and experience these 12 activities that will make your vacation one for the books!
1. Cross Country Skiing and Snow Shoeing at The Pines Winter Recreation Center
Guests at Grand View Lodge can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at The Pines Winter Recreation Center. Explore over 20 kilometers of scenic, groomed cross-country ski trails through The Pines Golf Course. Bring your skis or snowshoes or use ours. Our trails wind through beautiful hardwood forests filled with scenic landscape and abundant wildlife. There is also a selection of area cross country ski trails to adventure as well. However, you’ll need your equipment to explore those trails.
2. Ice Skating and Hockey Rinks
Don’t let the weather stop you from enjoying outdoor activities like ice skating during your stay. Grand View Lodge provides two curated rinks, free skate loaners, and a warming room. Only a selection of sizes are offered, so if you have ice skates – be sure to bring them during your stay to enjoy the rinks with your family or friends. Also downtown Nisswa has a refrigerated hockey rink and Zambonis their ice to make ‘pick-up games’ a little more competitive and fun.
3. Horse-drawn Wagon Rides
There’s nothing more magical than a winter wagon ride, especially during the holidays. This activity is complimentary during your stay. A sign-up is available, so be sure to ensure your time slot before you arrive to make sure you get to experience this winter wonderland.
4. Wine and Beer Tastings
Sometimes the winter weather leads us to want to stay indoors where it’s warm. If this occurs, then partake in our wine and beer tastings. Each week guests can enjoy a tasting tour of several wines from different regions of the world. All wine tasting participants receive a certificate for a complimentary glass of wine to use in any of our restaurants during their stay.
We also have beer tastings! Experience what Minnesota breweries have to offer. Each week, guests can try a variety of styles and breweries with information and tasting notes on each. Included in the tasting is a coupon for the Northwoods Pub for you to enjoy another pint of MN craft beer.
Sign-up for our wine and beer tastings on Saturdays at 3pm.
5. Mini Waterpark
Make a splash in your family scrapbook and enjoy Grand View Lodge’s mini waterpark! At our indoor pool, you’ll find a 110-foot indoor waterslide with connecting swimming pools. Grown-ups and kids alike can take turns going down the slide. Kids can also enjoy three water fountains and two water guns. Warm up in either of our two hot tubs.
A 1,200-mile network of snowmobile trails radiate in every direction in the Brainerd Lakes Area, making this area one of the upper Midwest’s premier snowmobiling destinations. Bring your sled or rent one from our friends at Boats & Beyond Rentals. Marvel at beautiful views while zipping through the woods – a highly recommended exhilarating adventure.
7. Ice Fishing
Our area has long been a fishing destination and the winter is no exception. With multiple lakes in the area, you are sure to find the species and experience you are looking for. You don’t have to bear the cold while ice fishing. We offer our guests the opportunity to rent one of our fish houses on Roy Lake. Also, one of the many activities that you can sign up for is Ice Fishing 101 where you can enjoy a few hours on the lake and become a seasoned ice fishing expert yourself.
8. Three Restaurants
It’s not a true vacation without great food! Grand View Lodge has three dining venues that are open year-round – CHAR Craft Steaks, Cru Restaurant and Wine Bar, and the Northwoods Pub. Each venue offers something different. Don’t forget that the Northwoods Pub offers happy hours from 4 pm to 6 pm Monday-Saturday and all day on Sunday.
