The Pines’ Jake Wherley Wins National Car Rental Minnesota Assistant PGA Championship

Jake Wherley, Head Golf Professional at The Pines at Grand View Lodge, took first place at the National Car Rental MN Assistant PGA Championship, played on Monday, September 12 at Edina Country Club in Edina, MN.

A score of nine under through 36 holes bested the field for the golf professional. Jake got a white-hot start to the tournament by firing off 8 birdies and eagling the ninth hole, finishing his first round at the top of the leaderboard with a 65. He followed that up with four additional birdies in the second round and finishing with a two-under 70, which was enough to seal the victory.

Wherley concluded, “I am honored to be able to call myself the 2022 MN PGA Assistant’s Champion. To be able to win the biggest Assistant/Associate event of the year is right at the top of the list of my playing career accomplishments. Having Grand View’s leadership and membership support means the world to me - I love being a part of the family here.”

The National Car Rental Minnesota Assistant PGA Championship is the most distinguished event in Minnesota for PGA Assistant Professionals and apprentices in the Minnesota Section of the PGA. With the win Jake qualified for the Minnesota Golf Champions tournament, being played September 30-October 2 at the Minneapolis Golf Club and the 2023 Minnesota State Open.
