The Pines and The Preserve at Grand View Lodge named MGA Member Club of the Year: Golf staff also take recognition
The golf season wrapped up at the end of October with another successful season. Our golf staff was honored with three awards recognizing not only The Pines and The Preserve, but also the individual team members and their outstanding service and contributions.
The Minnesota Golf Association hosted the 117th Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner Monday, October 30, at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club in Lakeville, MN. Grand View Lodge was named 2017 MGA Member Club of the Year in recognition of the facility’s support of the MGA Associate Members’ program, willingness to host MGA championships and qualifiers, and for its groundbreaking leadership in Minnesota’s golf tourism industry.
“The Explore Minnesota Golf Alliance has great admiration for the quality and value of Grand View Lodge products and its hospitality,” stated Steve Dowling, Associate Director of Minnesota Golf Association.” “Especially with the resort’s contribution to promoting Minnesota as the desired golf destination including the fantastic job of hosting the accommodations and tournament round at The Preserve for the 3rd Annual International American Cup this past fall. This award adds even more to Grand View Lodge’s worldwide reputation as a golfer’s premier destination.”
Two individuals on the golf staff also earned high honors by being recognized by the Minnesota PGA and the Minnesota PGA Dakota Chapter.
The Minnesota PGA announced the award winners for the 2017 season. Jack Wawro, Director of Golf at Grand View Lodge, was awarded 2017 Facility Promoter of the Year. The award is given to individuals who go above and beyond in their contributions to their facilities. Criteria considered for the award include golf programs offered, tournament operations, merchandising, rules, promotion, and facility history.
“Jack is very deserving of this award,” said General Manager Mark Ronnei. “He successfully organizes around 25 tournaments every year, promotes membership at both courses, exceeds guest expectations, and is a great member of the team.”
Adam Haugen, Head Professional at The Preserve Golf Course, was recognized as Professional of the Year in the Minnesota PGA North Dakota Chapter. Haugen scored a 63 in the 2017 Dakota Chapter Championship. His achievement as a PGA professional in addition to his service to the game of golf has been second to none.
Grand View Lodge features two challenging championship golf courses. The Pines, designed by Joel Goldstrand, opened in 1990 and is now a beautiful 27-hole course. The Preserve, the 18-hole golf course in Pequot Lakes, was acquired later on.
Grand View Lodge has hosted the MGA Net Team Championship since its inaugural year (1992), as well as many other MGA championships including Four-Ball, Senior Players’ and Players’ (match play), the Women’s Senior Amateur, the State Junior Boys’, and several USGA and MGA qualifiers.
Currently, Grand View Lodge has more than 220 active MGA Associate Members using the GHIN service. The club’s handicap committee excels in reviewing and posting scores for handicap purposes in a timely and accurate fashion.
