Ice Fishing Extravaganza
January 24-26, 2020 - Starting at $175/night
Book your stay at Grand View Lodge at the end of January and experience the largest charitable ice fishing contest on earth! Stay right near the action and enjoy access to exclusive amenities and extras only available to those staying at Grand View Lodge. Avid ice anglers and hobbyists alike will love the fun and exciting weekend filled with ice fishing, entertainment, and a multitude of winter memories waiting to be made.
This annual event is put on by the Brainerd Jaycee’s and benefits 46 local charities including the Confidence Learning Center, a local recreational facility and camp for individuals with developmental disabilities. The long-standing area tradition was started in 1991 in order to create a signature event that embraces our community and what a Minnesota winter is all about. The event takes place on Gull Lake’s Hole-in-the-Day Bay and brings over 10,000 people in the hopes of hooking that big fish. The event features over $150,000 in prizes from a Polaris ATV, augers, fish houses, to a new truck.
Though the event is focused around the ice fishing contest, that is far from the only excitement taking place over the weekend! The events kick off Friday night with entertainment by comic magician and illusionist, Jared Sherlock, at the Gull Lake Center at Grand View Lodge. Enjoy world-class entertainment, some adult beverages, and meet and greet with some of the best ice fishing minds in the industry. All proceeds from the kickoff event go to local charitable organizations, the primary being the newly formed Brainerd Warrior Fishing Team.
On Saturday, wake up and head down to our grand breakfast buffet (included in your stay!) and fuel up for the busy day ahead with delicious scrambled eggs, pastries, sizzling bacon, and much more. Hop onto one of our free shuttles that will transport you out to the Ice Fishing Extravaganza and find your lucky hole, all of which are pre-drilled by a team of volunteers. Ready, set, fish! The cannon fires at noon sharp and the contest is off!
Grand View Lodge guests (fishing or not) have access to our exclusive top-notch warm hospitality tent. Inside the nice, cozy tent you will find delicious food, hot chocolate and coffee, and beer, all for FREE. Throughout the day, feel free to stop by, warm up your toes, and eat some good food.
Our shuttles bring our guests back and forth from the resort property to the event all day until after the 3:00 p.m. winner announcements. After spending the day on the ice, warm up by a cozy fireplace or head to the Northwoods Pub for a tasty and warm hot toddy!

Winter lovers, anglers and adventurers young and old will love this family event that takes place every year, exclusively for Grand View Lodge guests! Our Minnesota Ice Daze weekend was created to celebrate all things that we love about Minnesota in the winter. Your family will love fishing in the exclusive to Grand View guests Ice Fishing Derby, horse-drawn carriage rides, live entertainment, and more!
Our Recreation Director Kelby Klimek says our guests had a blast last year. “It was a great turnout and great to see so many kids out fishing, for some it was their very first time!” It was a beautiful day last year, with temperatures in the balmy 20’s and our recreation department is hoping for similar weather in 2020. “Last year was awesome! The sun was out and everyone was enjoying a beautiful Minnesota winter day. Plus the team provides free hotdogs, cocoa, and beer for the adults out on the ice!”
Try your luck at catching that big fish and bring home memories that will last a lifetime along with it. You will never forget that look on your child’s when they reel up that big catch! Compete for prizes during the Fishing Derby on Saturday and then stay until Sunday for our Super Bowl 54 Party Night! Cross country skiing and snowshoeing
During the winter, The Pines Golf Course is transformed into a winter wonderland. The Pines Winter Recreation Center is comprised of 8 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and offers complimentary snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals to all of our guests. You and your family will love exploring the beautiful Grand View grounds while surrounded by fluffy magical snow.
Outdoor hot tub
Located right outside of our new NorthPark recreation center, our 8,000-gallon hot tub is the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring the northland. The hot tub is open year-round and has multiple private bays so even when busy, the jacuzzi still has that private, intimate feel.
Snowmobile
Bring your own or visit our friends at Boats and Beyond Rentals to rent a snowmobile and explore the 1,200 miles of trails surrounding the resort. Speed down the trails with your friends and family and marvel at the beautiful views you discover along the way.
Ice Skating Rinks

TAP Events – January 14 & 28, 2019
Join us for two unique and crafty events taking place right here in our Northwoods Pub! The Traveling Art Pub is visiting on two evenings in January. The TAP artist will to guide you as you paint a winter-themed work of art, all the while enjoying a beverage or two! Don’t worry if you are not a natural artist. The TAP artist will guide you through every stroke of the paintbrush so that even the newbies can create a beautiful piece of art!
