October Wine Dinner Meets Halloween: Wear your costume to win prizes

This year we are excited to announce our one-of-a-kind wine dinner!

Join us on October 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Cru for our Prisoner’s Wine Dinner. Cost is $125 per person. Reservations are required – call 218-963-8756 or visit gvlfun.com to save your seat.

Enjoy an elegant and educational wine experience with The Prisoner Wine Company.

The Prisoner Wine Company is a winery based in Rutherford, California. They work with passionate, devoted growers to source varietals from the best vineyards and appellations located across California in order to create interesting wine blends that are thought-provoking and approachable.

Enjoy a five-course dinner all while tasting Prisoner Wine Company wines.

The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with a Reception featuring chef’s choice of appetizers. Paired with our reception will be Prisoner Wine Company’s signature blend called The Prisoner. The Prisoner was inspired by the “mixed blacks” first made by Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. The Prisoner is now the most recognized Napa Valley red blend. It is an interesting blend incorporating Zinfandel with the unlikely mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Charbono.

Following the reception, the second-course plate is Blue Crab Salad with roasted cauliflower puree, micro greens, and vanilla bean vinaigrette. The Blue Crab Salad is paired with Prisoner Wine Company’s Blindfold, a spin on a white blend.

While they tried establishing their own spin on a white blend, they saught out the impressive Rhône and aromatic varietals that nicely compliment a classic Chardonnay base. Through partnering with growers dedicated to cultivating alternative varietals in their outstanding vineyard sites, the result is a wine that is bold and intriguing.

The third course featured Pan-seared Skuna Bay Salmon with roasted heirloom tomatoes, pappardelle pasta and paired with Prisoner Wine Company’s Thorn, a blend of merlot, syrah, and malbec.

While working with their growers in Napa Valley, they came across small, premium vineyard lots of Merlot, which served as our inspiration to create Thorn. The Merlot was blended with Syrah to create depth in the body while Malbec accentuates the fruit.

The fourth course is a Pistachio-crusted Rack of Lamb with bulgur wheat salad, wilted kale with caramelized onions, and black pepper jus. This impressive plate is paired with Prisoner Wine Company’s Cuttings.

Inspired by the age-old method of using cuttings from idyllic sites for the propagation of new vines, this Cabernet Sauvignon showcases some of their favorite hillside vineyards. Cutting combines the intensity and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon with the structure and richness of Petite Sirah and Syrah. A small amount of Zinfandel adds a nice layer of complexity while encompassing a signature, vibrant spiciness.

Lastly, the dessert and fifth course is Red Wine Chocolate Cake with rich zinfandel ice cream paired with Prisoner Wine Company’s Saldo. Chocolate and wine are most wine lovers’ necessities.

While sampling grapes from fine-quality vineyards to make The Prisoner, Prisoner Wine Company came across many that, although not right for that distinctive Napa Valley blend, were just too good to let go. They created Saldo to feature this outstanding fruit from Dry Creek, Lodi, and Amador, where Zinfandel has thrived for decades.
