With a patchwork of over 400 freshwater lakes spanning central Minnesota’s Crow Wing and adjoining counties, the Brainerd
Resorts area brims with opportunities for adventure on both land and water.
Interest in eco-tourism has shifted emphasis to this aspect
of vacationing and in addition to the usual fishing charters and sailboat
rentals, Brainerd Resorts area visitors will find bike trails, canoeing,
and horseback riding. Winter offers a fresh spectrum of activities including
cross country skiing, ice fishing – even sled dog adventures.
Founded in 1870 by Northern Pacific railroad president John
Gregory Smith, the town of Brainerd came to life around the rail station’s machine shop as it serviced locomotives for the entire Northern Pacific line. The Brainerd
Resorts area we know today is a vibrant hub for tourism and a flourishing service industry, while the railroad remains as the city’s twelfth largest employer.
At the heart of the Brainerd Resorts area beats the lakes
themselves, home to a varied array of sport fish including Walleye, Northern
Pike and Largemouth Bass to name a few. An assortment of angling opportunities
awaits amateur and seasoned fishermen alike, whether you’re in the market for a friendly and professional guide or prefer to go it alone.
On Gull Lake, Hole in the Day Bay’s winter time alter ego is the site of the The Brainerd Jaycee’s $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza, the world’s largest ice fishing tournament.
Gathered in our Brainerd Resorts area, over 10,000 anglers participate in this volunteer powered event and all proceeds are donated to charity.
Explore, play,
eat, and relax.
The Paul Bunyan Trail, with nearly 100 miles of accessible
pathway, winds its way through the Northwoods countryside providing adventurers
a scenic backdrop as they hike, bike, inline skate and snowmobile around
Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and beyond.
Sporting types can tee off on Brainerd
Resorts area golf
courses, selecting from a variety of esteemed greens shaped by the sport’s premier golfers and architects, the best of which are located right here at Grand View Lodge: The
Pines, The Preserve, Deacon’s Lodge and The
Garden.
The entire family will enjoy hours of refreshing togetherness
cooling down at the area’s numerous beaches and pools. Our inviting waterways are a playground for tubing, water skiing, wake boarding and touring.
Restaurants are plentiful in the Brainerd
Resorts area and
dining choices range from fast food to fine dining. One needn’t look further than Grand View Lodge itself for an unforgettable sampling of Northwoods cuisine at its finest. Six restaurants on Grand View’s property, including our spacious Grand
Dining Room and historic timber lodge-themed Sherwood
Forest Steak and Chophouse, offer dining from casual to casually elegant.
Above all, relaxation is king in the Brainerd
Resorts area.
Whether it’s a luxurious day of pampering at the spa, or a beach cookout
gathering of friends and family, you’ll find what you’re
looking for here in our unforgettable region of Central Minnesota.
