February 2016 Art Walk marked the annual De’Vine Wine and Culinary Weekend at Grand View Lodge. This weekend was full of culinary classes, wine seminars, and more, bringing people together who have an interest in Wine and learning about the many arts of it.
Every two years at this event Grand View Lodge hosts an “Art Walk” where local artists can submit their work to be the next Grand View Lodge house wine labels. Those who enter, have their art displayed during the Grand Tasting on Saturday evening. As Guests at the event walk around sampling over 200 wines and enjoying the hors d’oeuvres by Grand View’s culinary team, they can observe the art and vote on their favorite.
The winner of the 2016 De’Vine Artwalk was Mary Wolke of Minnesota. Wolke was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota where she attended Cathedral High School. She later went to school for her Bachelors Degree in Art and her Masters in Education. In 2012 Wolke opened the Crosslake Co-Op Art Gallery where she still coordinates the gallery during summer months. Her duties at the Gallery also require her to discover new artists and promote the gallery through postcards and pamphlets, which she designs and distributes.
Wolke is a member of many art related organizations; including, Crosslake Art Club, Central Minnesota Watercolorists, Great River Arts Association and many more. Spending her summers in Arizona, she also participates in organizations offered in the South, such as, Arizona Art Alliance and Arizona Art Club included.
Wolke spends much of her time in the Crosslake area where she has a cabin on the lake. Most of her inspiration comes from taking in the nature around here. It may be looking out the cabin window, or on her daily hike where she finds the design of her next piece.
Visiting Grand View Lodge every year for Christmas with her family helped her target the perfect image she wanted to submit for the art walk. “I love coming to Grand View Lodge every year,” said Wolke, “I was very excited when I received the letter announcing my win.”
