1976– First Governor’s Fishing Opener

Governor Wendell Anderson attended the opener at Grand View Lodge on Gull Lake in 1976. Anderson, a hockey player in the 1956 Olympics, sat with Minnesota North Stars goalie, Cesare Maniago, during the pre-opener fish fry at Grand View Lodge. The largest catch was a 9-pound, 5-ounce walleye. Some anglers came up empty handed, including Anderson, but not without great stories.
